Tech Art - Basic Lighting & Materials

We were learning how to effective create and build lighting in Unreal Engine 5 for this project. We chose 2 rooms and a hallway to light. Additionally, in each of the rooms we had to place an asset from the Bumping Pub asset pack with a custom material assigned.

In this bedroom, I added an area light to the window to cast light onto the bed. The custom material in this scene is on the apples; I changed them from red to green. I also added point lights to all the candles and a flame. I also wanted to make it seem like there was light in the other room, so I placed a few lights to cast through the doorway.

In the second room, I added area lights to the windows and point lights and flames to the candles again. I had the added challenge of balancing all 3 area lights which presented some issues with overlap. I also added a warm light to the fireplace embers. The material in this scene is the pink metal on the pitcher.

For the hallway the lighting again comes primarily from the window and candle lights, but again I tried to make it seem like there were more lights around the corner. In this image I also used a stationary light to cast the shadow of the Unreal Mannequin into the scene. The material in this scene was placed on the stool on the ground.
