3D Art - Module 1 Week 3 - Environment With Primitive Shapes

The first part of this week's assignment was to practice using hierarchy, animation, and materials in Maya. This was to introduce us to the importance of how organization, and it also gave use some insight into how parent/child relationships affect movement and animation.

When the model was properly textured, when exported it as an FBX file and placed it Unreal Engine 5. We got acquainted with how to move around in UE and placed the mesh. We changed the lighting on the crane and replaced the basic materials with more refined instances.
Then, using emissive materials we lit the crane and practiced taking high resolution screenshots in UE5.

The other part of the assignment this week was to create an environment in Maya using primitive shapes. I decided to make a fantasy/medieval village. I was primarily focused on keeping all the elements simple and organized well in the hierarchy.

It was really valuable practice in a lot of different techniques we have previously discussed. The windows on the building have extruded faces and the castle in the background has beveled edges. Many of the objects have been fenced and had the smooth mesh preview converted to polygons. I also wanted to be certain that as I moved through the area one could have many little areas of visual interest, like the tower, the well, and eventually the castle and planet.
